Magnetic objects play

My son loves the magnets on the fridge and he constantly takes them off. So I got the magnetic whiteboard and the magnetic objects tub and left him to it.

The tub is s mixture of letters , numbers , book magnets and leapfrog magnets.

He enjoyed matching up the vehicles and animals and setting up a digger scene .

Magnet Tadpoles

We am continued out tadpole topic using magnets. 

They are idea as they are comprised of a ball and a tube magnet. so a head and a body .

We matched colours, made various length tadpoles and then counted how many tubes we added and sequenced them.

We many as many tadpole as we could and role played with them. He quickly worked out that the two like poles would repel and he needed to change the end to attract.

We also used it as a measuring tool to measure the tadpole vase.

Lovely preschool STEM activity.

Crane magnetic pick up

I tried this activity with my four year old about 1 1/2 ago and he loved it. So I wanted to try it with my 2.1 year old and he was more interested in the objects than the activity. Dylan liked using the wind up crane too. But I with Dylan my eldest he sat at the table do his attention was more focused .

Then Dylan came to check it out.

I used the sorting activity to stretch it for him. Wher he had to identify if it was magnetic or not? I also used objects that had both parts that were and weren't . But decided to place it in the magnetic part of the table if any part was magnetic.

I encouraged Dylan 4.9 to talk us through what he was doing and what he found using keywords like magnetic. I recorded this to keep. This helps develop his confidence and scientific enquiry skills .

We talked about what we notice I out the two piles and that the magnetic side were mostly metals but that not all metals are magnetic .

Tin Robot

One of the items on the bucket list was to create a robot. 

Materials

Tin can

Glue

Magnetic tape or spots 

Lids

Scrap metal

Buttons

Pipe cleaners

Anything really 

We used glue and sticky magnetic tape to create the robots .

Great fun and some objects can be kept for next time or other magnet activities
