Easter Egg Pancakes

When there is a special day or a themed activity day in our house , it has become a bit of a custom to have fun themed food of some sort.

So Easter egg pancakes with fruit decorations are what they had for breakfast this morning.

Big World Easter Dig

After the small world sensory play activity a few days ago we found some large fillable eggs to go with the ride on digger to make the Big World Play activity.

After the egg hunt in the garden Zac used the empty eggs to throw and collect . He then decided to get on his digger and try pick up the eggs .  He then included the mud. He would place the mud and eggs in the scooper and then sit on the digger to release them.

Small World Easter Egg dig

My youngest loves vehicles especially diggers. After sorting out the toys I decided to get the diggers box out and gound the box of play oats. A quick sensory  activity  outside whilst the weather was nice. (As not been great)

Easter holidays so why not throw a few eggs into the mix?

Combined numeracy of counting, adding  and subtracting plus sorting by colour into an egg carton. Obviously that needed to sample the eggs.

Egg shell peeling

This activity was totally done to Dylan and his curiosities.  

After our egg science experiment of dropping eggs on different surfaces Dylan wanted to do the same with the boiled egg he had decorated . He was shocked when it didn't break as the raw egg did before. I explained eggs go hard when you cook them. 

When he dropped the egg, the shell cracked. He naturally started picking at it and looked for reassurance and I said it was ok as long as we wash hands right away. Once he peeled it all off I broke the egg in half to show him inside. He was intrigued .

Last Easter we drew faces on boiled egg shells.  Dylan must have remembered and asked if he could do this again .

We didn't quite do this in time for Easter but I liked to go with what inspires him.

Q is for Questioning: Does an egg crack every time you drop it?

II had already researched and planned to do a simple science experiment when my son saw the out off date eggs on the side and asked if he could crack the egg. So I said I posed a question ( which we are doing for the A-Z science series )

Does an egg crack every time you drop it?

So we decided on the four surfaces to drop the four eggs on . The pavement,grass, mud and the trampoline . We reused an egg to roll down the slide as an extra activity.

I got Dylan to predict whether the egg would crack or. It for each surface. He predicted right for each . 

You may of noticed I put a bag down just incase to help clear the mess up easily .

So we concluded that no the egg doesn't always crack when you drop it. Dylan described the surface that cracked the egg as a hard surface and that the egg bounced a little on the grass. 

I am going to do the egg in vinegar demonstration which I have never done where the egg is meant to be fairly bouncy . We will see.

Little Chef: scrambled egg

Dylan loves using the whisk and I fancied scrambled egg. So I thought to try and get him to try it I need to get him to help make it. He is very fussy with different textures of food.

So I cracked one egg and got him to whisk it and encouraged him to crack the next on the jug and I opened the egg up. He then whisked some more and added a splash of milk.

I was quite shocked and surprised that he did actually like it.

I then started thinking of other foods he won't try just on their appearance. Cheese is one.

So I thought lets make pizza.
