Painting with hyacinths

Every xmas my mother-in-law buys me a hyacinth plant as her dad who passed away a few years ago always did her. So as it is special to her we always make her a piece of art to keep in memory of him. 

Last year we painted a big art piece with them and cut it up . We used it as a colour mixing activity too and I showed Dylan how to make purple and to make different shades.

This year we recreated the flower by painting the stem and printing the flowers.

He also painted a big heart too as our colour this year was red .(for my living room).

For the heart I used a peg to grip flower as it became quite flimsy.

I drew the outline in red and they printed inside.

A is for Apple

We have completed the baby sensory a-z. So back around again , although the baby is 1 now.

We started today with apple stamping and as autumn is approaching we used colours to link like red, green, brown, yellow and orange.

I taped down the paper and put lollipop sticks in to apple halves and paint in a paper bowl and we were ready.

I am going to frame them and have them in my household too .

Firework fun: Polystyrene printing

After raiding the arts and craft cupboard I found polystyrene packaging and thought they would be good to paint fireworks with.

Easy to do and makes a great print. Dylan didn't want to stamp he preferred painting with them.

Firework fun: pepper printing

I had a clear out ready for a food shop and noticed the peppers not smelling too good so I thought we could use them when we do firework painting on the easel.

We only used the tops of the peppers as the had a handle, next time we will try without. Dylan is a bit funny with things like that. 

Again great picture , this was the third art project and the paints were a bit messy so I think it would have looked a lot different with a fresh paint pallet.

Firework fun: pipe cleaner printing

I made a pipe cleaner firework printing instrument and the rest was up to Dylan.

He dipped the pipe cleaner brush and printed onto his paper. He made firework noises at the same time.

Picture looks great. I might swap it with one of the pieces in my wall frames.

I made two but the one where I used about four pipe cleaners twisted together was better as it was more sturdy and printed better.

Bonfire night recall: easel painting

Our local bonfire event was on the 2nd of Nov so we had an oppotunity to recall before bonfire night and we decided to use his new easel. This wasthe first actual picture he has painted. I asked him to paint the grass and he picked the colour.  Then I said what were they burning on the bonfire. He said wood. So I said pick a colour and paint some wood here. He picked brown. Then I asked him what colour the sky was and he said blue and picked a colour to paint. He needed help to avoid other items on the painting. The he added the flames.

He was a little reluctant to paint in specific colours and places but loved showing off his creation.

Baby wipe paint rubbing

This was totally my son's idea. I gave him a wipe and he rubbed the pictures he had made using cotton buds.

He was moving fairly fast so images are a little blurry but still good.

I think they came out quite effectively .

Also helps wipe excess paint off so they dry faster.

Painting with .... Cotton buds

This is one of my favourite tools for painting with.

So easy and disposable. They produce fab looking art.

He called this masterpiece the football match. He is giving it to his daddy to take to work.

We then did a kind of dot to dot activity with shapes, numbers and letters.

I was very surprised to see how easy he took to this. Plus how enthusiastic he was.

Leaf printing

A great autumn activity so easy and fun o do.

1. Collect the leaves

2. Paint the leaves

3 print with the leaves.

The pictures come out great although I forgot to take a photo of these.
