X is for Xylophone

X is one of those letters that has very few options of activities.
Xylophone is a nice option.

We have played with it before but not as the sole focus.

They played well together and played on the three that we have. We pointed out colours and sang song (that never matched the tune)

Then we made a lollipop xylophone and tried to match the colours up .

Dylan's patience for colouring for long periods is low. But he can colour quite neatly.

I never got a pic of zac as he just wanted to eat the felts . He was tired do he went to bed.

Next time we could do a science experiment for Dylan investigating pitch . Zac we could get a wooden one two as well as plastic and metal .

A is for Apple

We have completed the baby sensory a-z. So back around again , although the baby is 1 now.

We started today with apple stamping and as autumn is approaching we used colours to link like red, green, brown, yellow and orange.

I taped down the paper and put lollipop sticks in to apple halves and paint in a paper bowl and we were ready.

This is one of Zac's painting (1.1 )

This is one of Dylan's ( 3.10)

I am going to frame them and have them in my household too .

Baby Sensory A-Z: U is for utensils

My original thought was to do umbrella but I had recently done the ice bucket challenge and didn't want to get wet going out in the rain. Do I research letter U activities and found Utensils.
I thought that could work. It was a quick session and we never did any craft or messy play with them but we could do some baking and siving next time. We could even paint with the masher.

So I made up a kitchen utensils bucket and let them explore and encouraged them to make music and we role played goldilocks and the three beard eating porridge.

Then my preschooler used the tongs ( which is the utensil he picked) so I got some recycled bottle tops and a muffin tray and encouraged him to count, sort and spell out the letter U.

Next time we will probably :-
Bake a cake
Make scrambled egg to use whisk or angel delight
Siv flour and raisins then make a cake
Mash some veg
Paint / stamp with them
Make scented salt dough
Make Rice Krispie cakes

Loads to do to make it last all day!

Space themed play

Hi ,

As part of the baby sensory series I wanted to introduce Zac to salt . So I decided to make a sensory box. We recently visited the space centre and so I thought a space themed box  is a good link to that.
So we set up the box and also decided to make a space scene to play with.

What did we use?
A salt space sensory box with stars, space characters/rockets
A black sheet for space scene
Space themed toys and objects that could represent space objects
Scratch paper
Plain paper, Black paint/brush and wax candle
Dress up costume
Rice Krispies and cooking chocolate plus silver/gold sprinkles
Black paper and chalk

What did we do?
Dress up as buzz light year
Collected space objects for the bucket
We played wth the sensory box
We set up and played with the sensory scene
We arranged objects in order of size
We scratched a space scene and a rocket
We drew stars on a piece of paper with wax and painted over with black paint
Played with empty salt containers as rockets
Make space cakes
Draw a chalk space pic

Here our our pics of the day.

Collected and played with objects in a space bucket
The space bucket: toy story characters, rockets, flow in the dark stars/ planets, cups, hoops and balls.

We made it dark and started setting up the space scene.

They used them as musical instruments

Sorted the rockets by size

Counted and sorted the stars by size

Counted and arranged the planets
Counted, described and arranged cups
Then we played with the toys for a while .

I set up the sensory box by mixing salt with black liquid paint and decided to add a bit of flour to make the texture better for playing. Added toys, stars , cake cup cases balls and hoops.

Zac climbed in and Dylan put his feet in.

I forgot to take a pic of the scratching but here is the rocket.
Spelt out space on the fridge

Chalk space drawing- Zac seemed to understand draw and dot dot dot lol.
