Baby Sensory: L is for Light

This baby sensory session we focused on light.

What did we use:-
DIY Light box
A toy light stick/ saber
Coloured transparent containers
Sensory blocks

We dimmed the light and let them loose on all the light sensory stuff. They loved it and were curious and chilled out too.

We didn't really do much else as they were very tired after but I had planned for them to paint on a mirror with baby food and take a print. Then to use ziplock sensory bags to paint on the light box.
I never made a light sensory bottle but I have seen some great ideas and would use gel and sequins and glitter . Maybe next time, we will definitely revisit. My three year old loved it too.

Rice Krispies and digger play

After the baby sensory club ( which my preschooler also helps with) I kept the paddling pool up with the Krispies in. My 3 year old wanted to play with it so I added some magnetic letters and numbers.

He transferred the coloured Krispies to add more volume to hide the letters/numbers.
He played with the pool for a while on his own but then wanted me to find the hidden objects and hide stuff for him.

I gave him little pinches whicjph he used to squash the Krispies . He enjoyed this part especially and the diggers were soon forgotten.

Baby Sensory : K is for Krispies

In this Baby sensory session we looked at K is for Krispies.

So we had a paddling pool with Krispies in along with cups and spoons.

We also had diggers on stand by.

The night before I added food colouring to Krispies in a good bag to get different colours.

The blue needed more really but I ran out.

We had musical instruments- pots with Krispies in to shake.

We painted with Krispies in a zip food bag. By putting paint and Krispies inside and mixing the on a piece of card inside.

I was really pleased with the outcome .

Babies plus siblings playing in the pool.

Zac tasted the melted chocolate coated Krispies .

He loved them of course.

Coloured Krispie mixing
We talked about the colours. Some had scents do we smelt them.

They enjoyed mixing the colours up.

I struggled with K and this was a brilliant day suitable for older ones too (at the same time)
Definitely recommended!

Baby Sensory: B is for Balls

We have tried two sessions of this as some babies were absent and we still never managed to complete everything and never managed to take many photos.

The main part was just to experience different textured balls.  Zac loves his ball pit and his new sensory balls . We never got to play pass the ball of use a sheet to make them roll across or bounce in the air.

I still haven't made a bouncy ball sensory bottle or used them to paint with in a ziplock bag but we will.
So no artwork to show for this session I'm afraid.

We have visited the wacky warehouse with a ball pit several times.

Baby Sensory: H is for Hearts

I love that this theme lasted longer than the session.  Before the session I used ideas for the sensory tub to get my 3 year old practising his fine motor skills by threading Cheerios and beads onto pipe cleaners .  Then we got to eat the biscuits after the session and got the sensory tub out after the session . Plus we will also use the items in the tub to make valentines cards.

So the session started by simply getting the biscuits and icing augur plus sprinkles and letting them loose. The 6 month old just enjoyed eating a dairy free biscuit made by nanny.

Dylan my 3 year old loved decorating the biscuit . Of course he had to test the toppings first.

Decorating biscuits was all we really did in the session before babies were ready for food and naps.

When we got the tub out later when the babies went Zac was still tired and teething so I left his dummy in so he would put everything in his mouth.  He seemed to be interested but wants to eat everything. We will try again with the tub.

I'm disappointed we never got the heart stamping with the kitchen rolls but we might do it at the start of next session.

Dylan was a great helper again and loved the activity too.
Thanks mom for making the biscuits.

Recycled big art heart mobile

We had a big art session with heart stamps and hand prints to use for hearts, the extra bits I cut into heart shapes.

I then hole punched the too and the bottom of the hearts once and got Dylan to thread wool through to make a mobile.

Good fine motor practise and use of oiled art projects.

Indoor love heart hide and seek

We played this game outside too .
I cut out right hearts and wrote a number on one side and a love message in the other . (I love my mommy)

We took it in turns hiding and seeking .
He soon learned the message that matched the number and I encouraged him to tell me what he found and where to develop his lsnguage and numeracy skills.

Very adaptable idea, helped to talk about what love is and who he loves.

Sweet heart tic tac toe

Great game, good way to get their attention to rmtwzch them if they don't know how to play.

We have played several times. Me three year old gets the idea but still needs help, he started using phrases like have I blocked you! Bless him .

Sweetie Hearts

An extension to the marshmallow placing activity. The love hearts need to carefully be placed inside the heart the right way up without knocking the marshmallows over.
Use of fine motor skills, patience and literacy reading comments snd numeracy counting sweets.

Plus we got to eat them after.

Marshmallow hearts

A good way to encourage my so. To use fine motor skills and develop patience by carefully placing marshmallows around the edge of the heart.  It also helps him to learn the terminology for discussing shapes ie edges and hopefully reinforce his ability to recall how to draw a heart.

Plus we get to est marshmallows.

Recycled heart craft cards

We used the hearts from the sensory bin and the heart stamps we had done previously to make valentines day cards.
Quick, easy but effective. I hacmve kept the other hearts for future projects that require hearts .

Wooden block maze

These wooden blocks have been a favourite xmas present and he loves using them to build walls and roads . So I  asked him if he knew what a maze was and he didn't do I emplaned and then he helped me build one.
He then  role played going through the maze and we had treasure at the end if the maze.

I encouraged him to talk about the directions he was going and use the phrase 'dead end' which he soon picked up.

He loved this activity and after two or there times restructuring the maze he developed the confidence to do it by himself. Well done Dylan .

He even had a go and was really good at a paper maze.

TMNT Sewer search

A chance to get my son out if the house and some fresh air as they say for us all.  I knew we had a lot of circular drain covers around our neighbourhood .  I designed a quick tick sheet for Dylan to count how many we see on our walk . I under estimated how many we would see. I only wrote 1-15 but there were about 30.

I love his enthusiasm and he enjoyed the concept of TMNT . He picked up the tick sheet idea straight away and soon realised it was easier to tick if he lent on a wall.

Learning numbers, shapes, road safety, social skills talking to neighbours and  recording objects.

I may try this again but looking for letters that spell something he is interested in like  Ninja Turtles.

Well done Dylan

Baby Sensory : J is for Jelly

This baby sensory session I encouraged zac to taste , feel, smell , see and hear the sound jelly makes went you handle it drop it or squash it.

Zac was not sure at first but soon started enjoying it.
Dylan loved it and looked in shock that he was aloud to empty it out. Even though he did the same at 6 months.

Baby Sensory F is for Feathers

This was one of my favourite sessions, kind of a bit of baby torture by tickling them when they can't escape. All in the name of fun of course.

I must say well done for Louise bringing her sensory bottle and feathers.  I'm not sure what I preferred the feathers sensory tub or the bottle or the bag. The tub also owed them to touch but as abies put them in their mouth the zip up bag and bottle were just as useful.

The sticks with feathers were meant for painting but I then decided to draw a face on and pretend they were red Indians . I played the YouTube clip of ten little Indians and we sang along while holding the puppets. We then used them as tickling tools and let the babies hold them.
Finally we used them for painting, really easy to do with abates I must say! They produced some fab works of art. Well done . Dylan my three year old also loved this session tickling the babies, throwing feathers, tipping the tub of feathers over their heads and even the painting.

A great material for sensory sessions!
Thanks again ladies. Hope you enjoyed it too!
